Did you know you can receive rebates and incentives for making your property more environmentally friendly? Well, you can, thanks to the Regional District of Nanaimo’s Rebate program! Rebates and incentives are provided on a first-come, first-serve basis and are limited, so act fast if you want to cash in!
This article will provide you with information on some of the currently open programs accepting applications for 2022. If you have been considering any of these projects, now may be the perfect time to do them! Because if you are eligible, you could receive funding for the project.
Rainwater Harvesting
You must be the property owner to be eligible for this rebate. Installation for this program must include cistern(s) that are CSA approved and rated for potable use. The total rainwater capacity must be 4,546 liters or more, and you must have a minimum roof collection area of 18.58 square meters (200 feet).
To apply, you must submit a pre-approval application form with a description of the system to be installed attached. Also needed are the before photos of the site where the project will be completed.
Wellhead Upgrades
You must be the property owner to be eligible for this rebate. The upgrades needed to qualify for this project are- surface seal upgrades, well casing stick-up, and secure well cap completed on at least one well. These upgrades must be completed by a qualified well professional certified by the province of BC with a valid ID number.
To apply, you must submit a pre-approval application form with a description of the system to be installed attached. Before photos of the wellhead in need of an upgrade are needed. Also needed are photographs demonstrating the deficiencies of the components that need replacing. Be sure also to include pictures that identify the wellhead.
Well Water Testing
If you have a private domestic well on your property, you are responsible for your drinking water supply quality. Testing your well water ensures your well water is safe and will not contaminate the shared groundwater supply.
You must be the property owner to be eligible for this rebate. If you are a water purveyor or have a commercial property, you do not qualify for this rebate. To apply, you must submit a pre-approval form and submit an RDN issued voucher with your well water sample. Your water must have a complete spectrum analysis done on it by a provincially approved lab. It must be tested for the following: Total Coliform and Escherichia coli (E. coli), pH, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Hardness, Nitrate, Nitrite, Sulphate, Fluoride, Chloride, and 32 element metals scan.
Conclusion
All information for these projects must be completed and submitted between January 1st and December 15th, 2022.
